Corpus Libris

Way back in 2008, I wrote a post about Sleeveface  (one or more persons obscuring or augmenting any part of their body or bodies with record sleeve(s) causing an illusion). People are still posting their sleeveface photos to flickr.

Also in 2008,  Emily Pullen started the blog Corpus Libris while working at Skylight Books in Los Angeles. At some point she moved it over to Tumblr.  It’s the same idea as Sleeveface except books are used instead of record sleeves.   These are some of my favorites.

The Kitten Covers

You might be surprised to see a post featuring kittens on this blog, since I rarely  post pictures of cats or kittens.  I posted pictures of Cats in Sweaters a couple of years ago, so this isn’t the first post featuring pictures of felines. It’s not that I don’t like cats, it’s just that I’m severely allergic so I’ve never been able to be around them enough to relate to them.

But during my lifetime, I’m purchased quite a few albums and cds. Alfra Martini has created 8 pages of  legendary albums from a world dominated by kittens.

There were so many great covers at The Kitten Covers that I had trouble narrowing down the ones to post here, even when I limited my selection to albums/cds I’ve owned.

In many cases, these covers are an improvement over the original. Check out the original cover for The Cars self titled debut album, which was the soundtrack for my summer of 1978.

Found Photos from National Geographic Archives

Two weeks ago National Geographic, in honor of there 125th anniversary, started posting photos from their archives to  FOUND According to William Bonner, the curator of their extensive photography archive located in the basement of their headquarters in Washington, D.C.,  “Even after years of digging through the shelves of the archive, he still continues to find new stories and inspiring images that increase his appreciation for the collection.”

Peeps In Places

Photo: Peeps peer through the viewfinder at the Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. By John Frazier, contributor to last year’s Peeps in Places favorites gallery.

Calling all sugar-crazed globetrotters! It’s that time of year again, time to bust your little marshmallow bunnies and chicks out of their cellophane cages to let them explore the world.

National Geographic is asking their readers to submit their photo’s of Peeps across the world. Jimmy and I are going on vacation soon. Maybe we’ll take some photos of peeps and submit them.
