How Much Do You Know About Women’s History?

I’m not sure about the rest of the world, but in the United States March is Women’s History Month***. This week’s quiz is from Time.

When Women’s History Month rolls around every March, much of the attention tends to concentrate on a handful of our impressive female forebears—but they did not change the world alone. Less discussed are women like the tennis champion who also served as a World War II spy, or the Austrian movie star who invented the technology that paved the way for wi-fi.

Test your knowledge of famous women in history with these questions about the activists, entertainers, entrepreneurs and scientists who helped shape the 20th century.

In this quiz you are given a description, a picture (from The LIFE Picture Collection/Getty Images) and four names to choose from.  You just need to chose the correct woman. Even if you have no idea who the description refers to, you should be able to eliminate one or more of the possible answers.

Click here to take the quiz and see if you can beat my score of 9 out of 12.

*** March is also, according to Chase, the month designated to be aware / educated about certain diseases (Alport Syndrome, Colorectal Cancer, Eye Accidents & Disease, Kidney Disease, Multiple Sclerosis), celebrate various types of humor (Humorists are Artists, Internation Mirth), enjoy music (Music in Our Schools, Play the Recorder, Sing with Your Child),  and another sixteen designated months.

  1. Yes, it’s Women’s History Month here too – must be world wide. This is a very US centred list so I only got 7 and only 2 of those I knew for sure. I’ve been tweeting a different Scottish shero from history everyday and hope to compile then into a post at the end of the month. I doubt many of them will be well known outside Scotland (or even in Scotland!)

  2. 9/12. A lot of them I got right because the other three choices I recognized as not being the woman they were describing. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
