While we were in Washington DC, Jimmy and I stopped by the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. We were both surprised by the Meerkats. From watching Meerkat Manor we expected them to be skinnier and spend more time standing up. Here’s another picture that more accurately shows the size.
According to the woman we talked with at the zoo, Meerkats in captivity are larger than Meerkats in the wild because they get food on a regular basis. I didn’t read the woman’s badge so I’m not sure if she was a volunteer or an employee. Click on the picture below to check out pictures of animals from around the world.

I think we caught them at a bad time because they weren't doing much but maybe they are also less active at the zoo. They are really cute though.
