Today in Bodie history: February 1, 1899 – The Standard Mill re-opens… in the middle of winter… just 4 months after being destroyed by fire.

The above photos are all from Bodie State Historic Park. I took this photo of the Standard Mill on a very cold day in May of 2011.

As hard as it is to believe on days like today, it’s almost always colder in Bodie than in Minneapolis. (Click on the below chart to check out the average low temperatures.)
