Recycled Art

Earth day isn’t until Sunday, but since the letter of the day is R I decided to blog about 2 of my favorite artists that recycle stuff into art.

Jean Shin creates very large sculptures from accumulations of cast-off objects.

Sound Wave, 2007
78 rpm records melted and sculpted to form a cascading wave

Hide, 2004
100’s of worn leather shoes, deconstructed then stitched together

At her website, JeanShin, you can view many other sculptures made from cast-off items including sports trophies, prescription pill bottles, and losing lottery tickets.

Jeremy Mayer works on a smaller scale using only one type of cast-off item. He disassembles typewriters and reassembles them into full scale human and animal figures.

See more of his art at his Tumblr Mosaic Viewer.
